Everyone seemed to enjoy writing the restaurant reviews. I can truly say that I enjoyed reading and responding to them...honestly, enjoyed it. Why is it that some types of writing are easier and more enjoyable to read and write while others feel like such a chore?
If you are able, brainstorm some other types of assignments that might be similar to the restaurant review...
Honestly, I think that writing assignments like the restaurant review is more enjoyable to write because it is written in a very descriptive theme and an "as if you were there" feeling. Its fun writing those papers because for me, I try to make the paper more realistic than anything and as if your reading it like you're there. The fun part about reading the paper is trying to imagine yourself at the certain place and surroundings that the paper draws you into. Some other enjoyable writing assignments that I enjoy writing is personal life topics because its easier to write and understand what your writing when its from the heart.

The reason why I loved this first essay is it was something I got to pick and something I got to express and share what happen to me at that restaurant. My job of the essay was to make you feel there with me.
I completely agree with you! People like to read something or write something that they can relate to. Like you said, it makes you feel like you were there, even if you haven't tried it already. Such pieces like restaurant review keeps you engage in reading it because it just takes you to the place like you were there with the writer.

DeleteI think the personality employed in the writing by the writer as well as the quality of information given are what makes any type of writing more enjoyable to read. People tend to look for things to read not only for entertainment, but also keep up to date with what is going on. Therefore, people are more interested in reading something that they can relate to. Just take restaurant reviews; people read it to know what’s good to eat and where to get it. If the reader knows that the writing has some information that can be useful to them, something that they can accomplish, put to the test, they will enjoy reading it. Not only that such information encourages them to read the piece of writing, but it also keeps them engage because they can agree or disagree to what the writer is stating. Readers can put their own opinion and not simply take the information.
ReplyDeleteGiving a writing personality also keeps the piece more interesting for the reader. Who wants to read a monotone essay? When I say personality, I mean different tone, different mode, different expression. This way, readers stays engage in what they are reading. It also helps the reader focus on what information is being stated and keeps them interested to finish reading the piece of work.
I agree, it's much easier to read writing thats more personable or writing you can relate to, rather the a research paper where someone's just stating information.
DeleteSome assignments are easier to write and read for a number of reasons; when the topic asking the writer to relate his/her experience, the assignment becomes fun for the writer which is then reflected in the writing. As the audience read the writing, they can relate to the experience of the author which makes the reading more enjoyable. Also, when the writing is realistic, the readers become quickly engrossed with the content and feel like they aren’t reading, but rather making a connection with the author’s story.

DeleteI think you hit the nail on the head with a fun writing assignment consisting of relating to the topic. It can be tedious to write on an assignment that are foreign or new to someone, whereas something that is familiar can be enjoyable even if it’s just reflecting back.

ReplyDeleteTopics like the restaurant review are enjoyable to write about due to the experience. Instead of researching articles, the information is coming directly from my interaction with the food, drinks, service, and people. A hands on approach makes it easier to write about, and having an awesome meal makes it that much easier to write about. It was nice change to write about something positive and not depressing. Fun reads like these are easy to relate to because we can actually go visit these places and have our own experience.

DeleteI love the superhero idea, to be able to create your own powers and what you would do with them would really get the imagination going. It would create a surprising amount of depth in ethical dilemmas. What is right or wrong could be extremely hard to define, this would be very enjoyable to explore.
DeleteI can truly say that I enjoyed writing the restaurant review because it was a fun topic and it was an assignment that was dealt with our experiences on the food that we eat in a restaurant. This assignment is very much different than other writing assignment, for the reason that it is not a topics as other topics that are boring, such as when it comes down to history, science, or etc…where we have to look up information on the internet, and books. Sometimes we want to write papers on our personal experiences in life and want to express ourselves. That is why I enjoyed writing the restaurant review because it was based on my personal experience of life in food.

Sharing about your favorite and memorable childhood life seems to be fun. Most likely, each of us have great memories from our infancy. In addition, writing about "your favorite grade in High School" could be interesting since each of us, possibly have a remarkable experience.

There exist numerous factors of why some writing assignments are easier and more enjoyable than others. To begin with, topics similar to the restaurant review are more enjoyable to write because the author/writer gets to narrate their personal experience. When writing about a personal experience, the writer is able to express him/herself with more liberty. This liberty provokes less pressure about staying focus on a specific and assigned topic during the entire writing assignment, and consequently have a more qualitative performance; Moreover, when writing about familiar topics or fun writing assignments, the writer usually expresses him/herself with more enthusiasm and more confidence. This is due because he/she is conscious that there exist less probabilities to deviate on the topic assigned. In my perspective, I prefer and enjoy more writing assignments similar to the restaurant review, since I am able to transmit to the reader the events that I experienced without having to concentrate on uninteresting and uncommon topics.

Sharing your dreams would be cool, but i'm thinking of dreams as the dreams you have at night in your sleep. That would be kind of interesting.
DeleteI really enjoyed writing a restaurant review. Maybe writing a movie review or review about a particular business such a spa or shopping center. I like writing about how things make me feel, and that is what I really appreciate so far about this class. It gives me the opportunity to express how I felt and I why I felt that way.
ReplyDeleteA review about a particular business could be an interesting paper topic. Like a good massage you had at a spa, or your shopping experience at Best Buy the morning after thanksgiving. But, it would still need to require a lot of descriiptive details. :)

DeleteI feel that writing assignments such as the restaurant review are easier for most people to write because they allow for creativity. We were able to choose any restaurant of our liking and this gave us a chance to be interactive with our assignment. I enjoy assignment such as these because I feel that they allow students to connect to their writing. For me, writing about my personal experiences always seem to flow better than a research paper. Although I completely understand why at times we must write research papers and comprehension-based assignments, those types of writing assignments tend to feel like a chore unless you are truly interested in what you are writing about. If an assignment is interesting to someone personally then it is for the most part easier to complete.

DeleteI watch FoodNetwork television all the time, so it was fun to write the restaurant review because I got the opportunity to describe food in a way that makes people want to eat it. This kind of writing is fun because the goal is to get a reaction from the reader; a certain feeling. I thought that writing about a favorite vacation experience would be neat, like a snorkeling excursion, or surfing, or favorite family vacation. I also thought that a music review would be neat, because the writer can express a lot of emotion and senses through the music heard. But, I think the restaurant review was the best and most unique idea.

DeleteThe restaurant review was enjoyable to write because I could write in the first person. Reviews in general are easier to write because of that. I would like to do a book or a movie review. Maybe we could all choose a book and write a review on that? I think that would be a good exercise, especially because people don't read enough. The hardest kind of writing is when it's for a vast audience. When I was writing for The Runner it was difficult because I would over analyze. However, writing just for one person, like the professor, is fine.

DeleteWell, I think there are a number of reasons why certain types of writing are easier to read and write. In order for me to easily put words to paper I have to be knowledgable in the topic, I need to have a certain level of interest in the topic, and I like it be personal. Let's face it everybody likes telling a story and wrtiting about your personal life is much easier than writing about classical sociological theory, or something along those lines. As an avid reader I enjoy reading a variety of books, novels, articles, newspapers, and The Bible. I find it easier to read content that is interesting, informative, and easy to follow. I find it much easier to read than it is to put my thoughts to paper. However, I've discovered that the more I write the easier it becomes. I hope that my writing continues to improve with practice.

Also we were able to perceive our surrounding not imagine it or think it; it was tangible so writing about a restaurant review that we go regularly to is another plus. Other writing assignments we could do might be comparing online classes versus on campus classes.

DeleteThe restaurant review was my favorite! I personally loved it because I was able to be creative—an ability to describe with no limits. I believe this assignment should be fairly doable. It’s not easy or too complicated. All that was needed for this paper was creativity. If this assignment was a drag to complete, there are ways to simplify writing—such as brainstorming using different techniques (layout, bubble cluster, or even free writing). About the restaurant review, another good exercise would be to describe their dream vacation. Creativity is such an amazing tool! Let’s get to it!

People can use different thinking map that can help them organize why one holiday is better than others. A Venn diagram can help everyone compare and contrast their favorite holiday in a more detail abstract.

DeleteSome assignments are easier and more enjoyable to read than others because I think the content of the writing has to be interesting to the writer so that it may come off engaging to the readers. With the restaurant assignment, we were able to share our own stories, relate to others, and let our creative juices flow. In typical research paper, it just seems so boring to have to do research and write about it plus, include all the technical elements. Being able to write something you experienced and know about while giving the audience a look at how you've capture specific details is interesting to read. Giving insight to those specific details is also like having the reader along for the ride so they too can experience it.

I really found the restaurant review to be completely enjoyable and delicious. I found the writing to be much easier than the average writing assignments I have ever had to do. I feel like it was easier due to the fact that the experience was still fresh and very enjoyable I didn’t have to dig too much in my memory to remember this experience since I had just done it that week. I was also excited to go somewhere new to me. A couple essays I would find fun to write about would be about your own super hero where you create and name this person or thing, maybe your own medicine that would cure, make or help something or someone.

DeleteI believe that writings like the resturant review are easier to write about and more enjoyable because it is something that the writer is interesting in sharing and then in response, interested in viewing other peoples opinions or where it is they went. It all depends on what the writer likes to write about. I think that when you are asked to write about something that directs to yourself it is much easier. You know yourself better than anyone else so writing in first person just comes naturally. You get to express your own opinons with no one else telling you that your wrong. The first postings to this blogs were fun. Like the one where we were told to tell about our favorite movie. Writings related to that will always be fun. Things like where is your favorite place to vacation? or What is your best memory as a child? Things like this would make writings much easier and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteWriting and reading become easier when they are about topics of interest and everyone is different and everyone has different interests. Some of my better essays throughout my scholastic career have been on topics that I truly found fascinating. One that comes to mind was for a pop-culture class where I wrote about movie censorship. I see a lot of movies and I have opinions of those movies so writing an essay came easy. I did well because I wasn’t searching for things to write just to fill up my page requirement I genuinely had plenty to discuss. I believe the restaurant review was such a hit because we all have been out to eat, and whether we want to or not, assignment or no assignment, our brains critique the service and food. We are spending our money and looking for a good experience. So we notice how the service is, how the food tastes, and the overall ambiance so we can decide whether to go back. Other assignments that might be similar and spark interest might be a movie review; many enjoy a good movie or can definitely discuss an un-liked movie. I find pop-culture (movies, television, magazines) topics to be of great interest as well.
ReplyDeleteI think some writing tasks become easier or enjoyable when they can have personal touches and not some cold sterile fact driven statement. I enjoyed the restaurant review because I was allowed to use my own descriptive words, and not some run of the mill generic wording that wouldn’t give full credit to what I experienced. I think another similar assignment that would both allow descriptive death as well as unique creativity would be a memory recollection. Maybe back to the first memory someone can remember, or maybe to a happy one, or sad one. Regardless the type, it would draw on the writer to provide enough description to recreate the memory for someone else. Another type would be a dream, a lot like a memory since you have to still recall what happens, but a dream can have a rich alternate reality that would make putting it to paper an extremely fun task.
ReplyDeleteI think the restaurant review was more enjoyable because it allowed me to do something outside the norm when it comes to writing a paper. Usually when I have to write a paper it involves reading's from a book or some to on research. The restaurant review allowed us to do something enjoyable like good out to eat, while at the same time observe our surrondings. Which is what most people do anyways when they go out. As for types of writing that is easier or more enjoyable, I think its all about the topic of the paper and the freedom you have to express your own style of writing. I enjoy writing about things that interest me and that I have knowledge on. It can become more difficult when your forced to do a paper on a topic you know nothing about and have no interest. Yet I will have to say I have recieved topics in the past that I knew nothing about yet once I gathered information on the topic, I really enjoyed writing about the topic. Another aspect of writing that I enjoy is when I'm given the freedom to be creative and give my opinion, rather the an assignment like a research paper. All in all I enjoy expressing my views on topics, as well as hearing others views. To me that the most enjoyable type of writing.

I think the best types of writings are the ones that allow a person to use their wild imagination or the ones that allow the writer to relate to the contents on a more personal level. These types of writings give the writers the freedom to write and express their inner thoughts without having a lot of restrictions and requirements. I did not really think of the restaurant review as an essay, but more of a creative writing. The first essay allowed me to write freely about something I enjoyed. Being able to reminisce through writing about a certain time or place allow a more enjoyable work. Any writing that deals with an interesting concept or even a topic that someone has passion for, makes it easier to accomplish.

DeleteThe restaurant review was a much easier paper to write since it allowed us to share an experience. We completely controlled how the story would unfold, either good or bad. Other papers I had to write in the past were a complete drag and a waste of time. I really enjoy writing papers that come from the heart and allow me to state my opinion. I remember I would like to write about where I saw myself in ten years from now because looking back I can see how my interests have changed. Same can be said about reading, when the author puts passion into the material he or she is presenting it makes a world of a difference.

When given a ordinary english essay assignment, its usually something that the professor wants the students to respond to that doesn't really connect with the students. I feel that people will put more passion into what they love doing and eating is what everyone does, so everyone can relate to this topic.
ReplyDeleteWriting and reading restaurant reviews are more enjoyable than other forms of writing because each individual provides a different stories. Since restaurant reviews are from personal experience, they are easier to write because there is no technicality behind it. Work that requires personal reflection seems to be the most enjoyable for me because it doesn't require further research than your own memory; I guess the biggest difference writing about personal experiences would be that I feel like I'm writing a blog entry rather than doing an actual homework assignment. Aside from writing that express personal thoughts, writing about topics that suit your interests are also the easiest types of writing from me.

Writing feels like a chore when we have little knowledge on a given topic, and we are required to investigate something that does not interest us. Sometimes we are given topics that we have no personal experience with, and this can make us unwilling to put the time and effort, making the assignment a chore. In the other hand, writing can be enjoyable when we are given a topic that we have a positive attitude towards or with have personal experience with. Writing the restaurant review was fun because we wrote about personal experience. When we write about personal experience we write about what is on our mind, and there is no rule to what we could write and not write about. In this assignment we were able to express ourselves and that makes a writing assignment more enjoyable than having to stick to a topic we dislike.

DeleteI had so much fun writing the restaurant review! I think it's easy for people to do creative writing, as opposed to research papers, essays, and reports. I have two classes with the same teacher. One class is creative writing and the other is post-modern Lit. I really enjoy the creative writing class so much more because I feel like I am producing something original, instead of regurgitating things from experts. Poetry is fun to write and read. I enjoy many kinds of books, especially memoirs, novels and biographies. I found that the restaurant review was kind of like I was producing a commercial. In particular, I felt like I was watching a Mauricio's commercial. . .
