WEEK THREE BLOG ENTRY

What is your most enduring memory from a restaurant? Maybe someone proposed to you, broke up with you, or you did either of those things. Perhaps you ate with a famous person. I once had lunch with Nicholas Cage in a restaurant on Melrose Ave.Well, not "with" him but at another table. I wonder if he still tells his friends about it. Did you ever eat somewhere with menu sticker shock? $34 for french fries? Did you ever eat somewhere so delicious that just one bite changed your life? Tell us your most enduring restaurant memory.

  1. I guess my most enduring memory from a restaurant would have to be would have to be when I ate at the Pampas restaurant in Las Vegas, located inside Planet Hollywood. It was a few years ago and one of my very good friends was getting married and the entire wedding party and guests went to dine there for the reception celebration. It was a memorable dining experience for many reasons. The first being the amazing mouthwatering food we we're offered. The restaurant was a buffet style that consisted of these delicious gourmet Cuban side dishes. Second, the main courses were these amazingly large pieces of chicken, beef, and pork on a skewer that the waiters came by with, offered and then proceeded to cut off a huge slice right onto your plate. Lastly, the celebration of my dear friend's wedding and the execellent company made this restaurant experince a memorable one that I will treasure for years to come.

    1. You had me at buffet Denise! Secondly, I have never tasted Cuban cuisine, but I would love to try. I'm always up to trying new things, new experiences, and new places. I would definitely save this place on my calendar and maybe I can try it next time we visit Las Vegas again. I just hope that we do get the same impression of the restaurant or the same experience in dining there.

    2. Sounds delicious! I have never tried Cuban food. I will keep this resturant in mind for sure for my next trip to Las Vegas.

  2. My most memorable time I spent in a restaurant was with my immediate family and in –laws of the my brother and sister celebrating my sister’s birthday at Kobe Japanese Steakhouse in Rancho Mirage, California. We all made up our minds to what we were going to eat that evening, we were savoring for lobster tail others wanted steak. Before arriving to the front door I was amazed by seeing a Koi fish pond and the structure of the building itself was very enticing to view, it reminded me of my Asian roots. That night we were a total of 11 guests we had made reservations and were seated promptly. As I first stepped into the restaurant I could smell the many aromas of the foods being prepared at other tables, people laughing and talking having a good time. It was definitely an entertaining experience and we all were satisfied with the dinner we planned out to eat and also the chef was very friendly, which made our evening there that much memorable. Also it wasn’t that expensive as I thought it would be my mom paid and it was a little over 200 dollars, which I thought it was well worth it.

  3. When thinking of the most enduring moment had at a restaurant, the only experience that comes to mind is the time in which I dined at the Hooters Restaurant in Las Vegas. I had eaten at Hooters a few times in Fresno and San Diego prior to dining in Las Vegas. I absolutely fell in love with their house cheeseburger and their chocolate cake. Being that it was Las Vegas and what Hooters is associated with, I assumed that the Hooters Restaurant there would be the best Hooters restaurant there is. Let's just say, I was completely wrong. After I was seated it took roughly ten minutes to get a waitress to take our drink order. None of the employees looked happy to be there and I didn't understand why because it's Las Vegas, but I figured it was probably different working in Las Vegas than vacationing there. My fiancé ordered hot wings and I ordered my typical house burger. After what seemed like hours, our order finally came up. Our drinks were nothing more than cups of ice and we had almost lost our appetite from sitting and waiting for so long. As my fiancé went to grab a hot wing, he stopped, looked at me and pointed. I couldn't believe my eyes and almost threw up. There were feathers still attached to the hot wings! Our waitress finally checked on us, once again what seemed like hours later, and we told her about the feathers. She didn't seem too surprised which really sparked my interest as I had almost fallen out of my chair after seeing that. After arguing with both our waitress and a manager regarding the feathers we were finally able to get the item taken off our bill. You would assume that when you order meat and instead receive feathers, it would be a breeze to have an item taken off the bill, but here, oh no. It was as if unsanitary and disgusting was what they were going for. Maybe they were trying to educate the diners about where their food actually comes from. Whatever it was, it should not have taken arguing with our server and then a manager to be refunded for an item that we felt was unsanitary. Can we just say, bad and unprofessional management. It is funny now to think back because it seemed as though the only people really concerned with the fact that fried chicken feathers were attached to the hot wings were my fiancé and I, but at the time, it was not the least bit amusing. Now I don't know whether it's sanitary or not (although I would bet on the latter) to have fried chicken feathers on your hot wings, but it was enough for both me and my fiancé to loose our appetites. After we got out of the restaurant, we both vowed never to set foot in that place ever again. Don't get me wrong, I still love Hooters and have not had a bad experience at any other Hooters, but I will not ever dine at the Hooters restaurant in Las Vegas again.

    1. feathers? I would surely remember that too!

    2. Yeah, that is pretty disgusting. I work at Chili's in Bakersfield, and if there were ever feathers sent out on wings at our restaurant, someone would probably be fired.

    3. I've stayed at the Hooters Casino in Vegas and went to the restaurant and I agree the food isn't up to par. I was really dissapointed.

      Delete
    4. WOW! I bet that was probably the worst part of your vacation. I work with food, so I definitely know that the feathers on the wings is truly UNACCEPTABLE. That manager should of waived your entire meal!!

    5. That's funny because I'm doing my restaurant review on Hooters as well, but it's the one here in Bakersfield. I like the food, but I do agree with you! The service was pretty poor. It took them awhile to serve us, the waitress took two breaks while she was serving us, and it seemed like they forgot our wing refill because we waited for almost an hour to get it. I'm not sure if its like that everyday or it was just that time because they were busy.

    6. Wow, I can't believe the feathers! Definitely unsanitary and down right disgusting. I can't believe it was such a struggle to get that item taken off your menu. Like Cathy said, your entire meal should have been taken care of after that incident.

  4. The most enduring memory from a restaurant would have to be when I went to Tokyo Garden in Bakersfield, California. I’ll never forget that day because it was a very special day for me. It was last year when I went for my birthday. I invited just my close friends which I had an amazing time. I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to enjoy the food and the place but it turned out that it was pretty good. The one thing that I enjoyed was when the cook from the restaurant was cooking in front of us. I was like going to a Japanese Restaurant when you experience the cooks making the food you order right in front of you. The cook that we got was very entertaining. He made my rice into a heart which was very nice. I order a meal called Filet Mignon which was very delicious. The cook made sure that I enjoyed my food which I did because it was good and worth paying. He was very enthusiastic that he was dancing while cooking. At the end of our meal, he had everyone sing Happy Birthday to me which was very special. Overall, the service was excellent and the people were really nice to us which is a very important thing when you eat at a restaurant. I think I'll go back and eat there again becasue I had no problems with the restaurant. We all had a very good time which I will never forget.

    2. Tokyo Gardens is my absolute favorite! It is where I had my last meal...2 days later I had gastric bypass surgery and well it’s been jello and liquids since. The atmosphere is a little cramped and chaotic but the food makes up for it, sushi or teppan doesn’t matter it’s all good there. As it was my last meal it will be my first, after many months ahead of me when I can eat again solid food I will go back there, will have to forgo the rice but that’s ok everything else is still good.

  5. Last month, my family and I were having dinner at the Golden Corral. The food was delicious; the staff members were extremely helpful; and the variety of food pleased us all. We were having such a great time. Until, my father received a phone call from his brother. I saw my father's smile disappear, and I knew something was wrong. My father was informed that his mother had passed away. We all stared at each other and left the restaurant. I won't get into the details; however, I now can't visit the Golden Corral due to this incident.

    1. Im so sorry to hear that. I can relate to your story but my experience is a little different. When my grandmother still lived, she had a favorite restaurant , which is Molcajetes here in Bakersfield. We would go there atleast twice a month because she loved it so much. After she passed away it has become really hard for my family and I to go back to that place. since she's been gone I've only gone there two times. Going there without grandma just brings tears to my eyes, and it becomes really hard to enjoy a meal.

    2. I’m sorry to hear about that. I have never been to Golden Corral but have heard great things about it, and am super excited that there is one here in Bakersfield. I am not a big eater so I never really go to buffets unless we are in a large group, next time there is a chance I will definitely consider Golden Corral

    3. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. That must have been awful to say the least. Golden Corral is definitely a favorite pick to eat at, but its understandable that the memories left by that night are easily erased and that the restaurant is associated with that. I have eaten at the Golden Corral out of state and recently ate at the Golden Corral here in Bakersfield in November. The variety and quality of food is unmatched by any other buffet in town.

  6. After I got back from a year tour overseas in 2009, me and my boyfriend took a trip to Las Vegas. At Stratosphere Hotel, they have a world renowned restaurant for having a 360 degrees view of the entire Las Vegas strip, no matter where you are seated. Me and my boyfriend had a dinner there during the second night of our stay. The dinning area literally rotates slowly, and gives you the whole view of the entire strip as you eat your dinner. When it came to the food, it is probably the best meal I've had. The steak was very tender and juicy, and even the onion, cooked whole, was sweet and delicious. We had a three course meal, which included bread, salad, the main course, and a dessert. The meal is a little pricey, but the food was good for two, the service was fantastic, and the view was amazing. It was a night to remember. After the dinner, you can also go outside, at the very top of the building and enjoy the view in an open area. They also have rides that can fulfill your cravings for adrenaline rush. Although we didn't go to any of the ride, it looked like it would be fun for those thrill-seekers. If I have another chance to visit, and of course the money to spend, I would go again. I recommend this place to every food lover. You don't even have to stay in the hotel. Just remember to make a reservation.

  7. A couple years ago, my husband and I went to Cafe Med for Valentine's Day. Somehow we were able to get in without a reservation, fortunately. It was very romantic, as the staff at Cafe Med know it's a place where people go for dates. I had a strawberry salad, which was great. My favorite part of the meals at Cafe Med is the pitas and Turkish salsa. I just cannot ever get enough of those! It was really special, because my husband and I have pretty much sworn off Valentine's Day as another holiday create by corporations to sell more merchandise after Christmas. Doing something conventional as a couple was nice.

  8. When looking back and thinking of the most enduring moment I had at a restaurant. I would say a year and 6 months ago when I went back to Middle East. We stopped by Dubai, my family and I were talking to the Millennium Dubai Airport Hotel. The moment I entered the door, I was treated with respect. The lighting was relaxing and seats were comfortable. They had everything a person can imagine, all kind of food and not only just a Middle Eastern’s style, but it was a mix from all cultural flavors. The food was delicious, for a second, I thought it was a dream because I am a picky person when it comes to food, but I was a live in that restaurant. After that, we were talking for a city tour and OMG; I was amazed by the views and tall buildings. I felt like a tiny small person among buildings of different shape, the sea, and the lighting everywhere. This experience was indeed one of my memorable moments and I would say that every minute I spent it in Dubai was a life-time experience. I am looking forward for my next visit!

  9. One thing I absolutely love to do is eat out. I grew up in Tehachapi, a small town, and would go out to eat with my friends just to get out of the house. So I have many restaurant memories but there is one that sticks out particularly. When I was younger my parents and I went to The Apple Shed, a little country diner type place for breakfast. We had gone to Saturday and Sunday morning breakfast plenty of times, but this particular morning I decided to squeeze and squish a mini French Vanilla coffee creamer. Well all of a sudden the creamer exploded sending the milky contents all over the older woman sitting at the table next to us. The worst part was the poor woman had no Idea and my mom had to go over and inform her that her black coat was now covered in white dots. Thankfully she was a very nice woman and accepted my apology. I have yet to touch another coffee creamer to this day.

  10. Eating at restaurants has never been a big deal for me, but i do have an enduring memory from a time i went to one. It was june 2007 and i was fresh off of walking the stage of my high school graduation an accomplishment that sadly only about fifty percent of students in our great state reach. For my graduation i was taken to hometown buffet not the flashiest or fanciest place, but certainly one of the yummiest. the food wasn't extra special that night or anything, but the feeling of accomplishment and the love, care and respect from my family made it an enduring memory. We spent hours there, that night stuffing ourselves like no other. it was not only my day but my families day, I was the first child of my immigrant father's offspring to graduate high school, a milestone for all. Sticker shock is something i get almost every time I go and eat out i cannot believe how absurdly priced some of the restaurants are! for no good reason either, its the same thing if not worse than other places.

    3. That sounds like a very touching and amazing moment you shared with your family. I have to agree that many restaurants are very overpriced, although I have to say, I'm not leading the charge in rebelling against the prices as I go out to eat pretty often. I think convenience and good food is a big factor in the reason restaurants are able to charge what they do and still retain customers.

  11. Food is actually a big part of my family considering we own a family restaurant. We tend to eat out quite a bit. Although there a few memorable moments that have occurred at dinner over the years, I would have to say the most memorable was when I met my fiance's family for the first time. We were all supposed to meet at about six o'clock for dinner downtown where my fiance works. Everyone was late; this should have been my first heads up that this dinner was going to be interesting. When everyone finally arrived and we took our seats, my fiance was still working. So there I was sitting with his mom, dad, two little brothers, and younger sister just sitting there. It was so awkward. Eventually he got a spare second and was able to sit down with the rest of us and eat. I used to be an extremely picky eater before we started dating and with in this family that is not an option. I ate like a six year old; chicken fingers and fries were my usual. His parents ordered calamari and all kinds of other foods that I had never even thought about eating. I ended up having to try the food because his mother kept insisting and I felt that it was rude to say no. There I sat holding my breath and praying that I liked the food because I had to eat it either way. But overall everything turned out to be fantastic and delicious. The dinner started off a little rocky but turned out to be a great memory because I will never forget sitting there at the table with his family in this busy restaurant in silence and all of us just looking at each other trying to figure out what to say. Today we are all really close and try to have family dinner together once a week.

  12. My favorite thing to do is to go out to eat with friends and family to eat. If I splurge on anything, its on food. It's all about the experience for me. I would rather throw down $100 dollars on a meal with friends than spend it on shoes or clothes. One of my most memorable retaurant experiences is when my boyfriend Jacob and I went to eat dinner at Tommy's. It's a small steakhouse in downtown Visalia. Their food is a little pricey, but it's worth it! We were celebrating our anniversary and decided to go all out on drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. We got fried calamari as an appetizer to go with our glasses of Merlot. The calamari was crunchy, along side a bed of green cabbage, with kalamata olives and a creamy tapanade. He decided to get a steak for dinner, but I went with a pork chop. I was a little weary to get it, but it ended up being one of the most memorable meals I have ever had. The chop came warm and perfectly cooked. Its juices coming through with every cut. It was seared to perfection, with a nice rub of spices, and topped with cruchy, crispy onion strings. It was served on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes had small chunks of cooked apple, which added a nice textural appeal. The sweetness of the potato with the pork chop was amazing! I could not stop eating it, I practically licked the plate clean. Jacob ended up liking my dinner more than he did his own. We ended the evening with Tommy's famous bread pudding, and another glass of wine. The whole experience was awesome, and we left with our cheeks rosie from wine, and a bellies full of delicious food! Very memorable!

  13. My most enduring memory is from back in 2006 when my high school friends and I had breakfast at Denny’s hours before we walked the stage to received our High School diploma. Even though it has been a couple years, I still remember what I eat, I remember what I was wearing, and remember little details like what table we sat in, and where everyone else was sitting. I still remember the laughs as we remembered about all the silly stuff we have done together, like participating in a riot that took place in our school. We cried because some of us where moving out for school, and we made the promised that we would never lose track of each other. Even writing about this gets me a little emotional because these are the people who I grew up with. We grew up in a really small town, so we were brothers and sisters to each other. Some are married now and have kids, others are divorced, and some of us are single, but we still continue to be great friends. Everyone is busy with their own life, and we all have different schedules, but from time to time we like to go have Denny’s just because it brings back great memories. We have kept our promise, and we all keep in touch with each other. These are people who become really special to me and made an impact in my life. It really does make me happy to be able to say that I still have these people in my life.

  14. The most enduring memory from a restaurant that I have is from the night I graduated High School. After accomplishing this great achievement, on May 2009, my family and I decided to go out to eat dinner. We went to a small but agreeable local restaurant, here in Bakersfield, but we all enjoyed that night. The triumph was not only mine, but it was an achievement for the whole family since we were simultaneously celebrating my mother's as well as my older brother graduation from the University of Bakersfield. The significance and the magnitude of this events really made that night spectacular and unique. Besides, I was officially presenting my girlfriend to my family which really made this night fascinating. The sensation and the ambiance that was perceived in the restaurant during that night was fabulous, everyone was laughing, talking, singing, and even crying for all the emotions presented. Undoubtedly, that night will live forever in my mind for all the enchanting memories of happiness and the victories that the whole family fulfilled.

About 15 of my friends and I took the trolley downtown and we all had a few drinks on the way there. As we arrived at the restaurant of few of my friends had already had one to many drinks. They were being loud and somewhat already making a scene. Thankfully we all made it to our table and began to order drinks. At this point the manager noticed us and came to our table. I let him know it was my birthday and we were just having a good time. He was extremely understanding and told us to enjoy ourselves. Then right after that my buddy had ordered a beer and then preceeded to drop it on the ground causing the ground to be covered in glass. 17. One of my most enduring moments at a restaurant would have to be the time I went out to lunch with my cousins in Sacramento. I hardly get to see my relatives, so I was really looking forward to the lunch. My cousin was the host of the entire lunch; therefore, he invited his in-laws to join us. Everyone was excited to eat and hang out, that no one was really thinking about who was paying for the entire lunch. As we entered the restaurant, I noticed that the atmosphere was different from a Chinese buffet that I would normally attend. The restaurant was darker than usual and the setup was different. The server walked us all the way to the back of the restaurant, which allowed us to be secluded from everyone else in the restaurant. It was awesome. I felt like we had the restaurant to ourselves. I do not think the food was the best in the world, but it was manageable. There was so many plates on the table, that I felt like I was at a Thanksgiving dinner. My family has always favored the phrase, “Sharing is caring,” so we shared our entire plate with everyone around us. We all started picking food off each other’s plate and gave our thoughts on the food. As everyone started becoming full, we asked for the bill. The server sat the bill at the end of the table, where my cousin’s wife sat. She grabbed the bill as if she was going to pay part of the bill; however, she passed it down towards my end. Within my family, the host normally pays for everyone; however, I knew that we would be paying for ourselves. I saw my cousin pull out his wallet looking like he was going to pay for at least his family, but he only placed five dollars on the table and left. Shortly, his family followed. Apparently, I had to pay for the entire bill. Never again, will I accept an invitation to lunch from my cousin!

    1. Ahhh! No! WOW! & OUCH! That is terrible and extremely awkward and to top it off it's with family that you had this ordeal with! This is exactly why I tell the server from the beginning that my order is on a separate check. Although, there are some restaurants if the parties are bigger than 6 or 8 you have to all be in the same bill and gratuity is automatic.

  18. There was a dinner at BJ's in Bakersfield with friends that I will never forget. It was a mistake to go out with such an outspoken couple. Everything was going fine until we began to order. The couple we were with ordered their drinks and they were informed that they no longer had that. So then they went on to order their apitizer, and they were imformed that they were out of that particular apitizer as well. The couple we were with started going off, asking the waiter what kind of service was that? So that started the dinner that went wrong. The waiter was fed up with us and took long with our food. We asked for refils and they wouldn't bring us anything. It was the most horrible and embarrasing night I have ever had. I starved because we got our food so late and to top it off, we never got refils on our drinks. So never go out with a couple that you know will make everyone have a hard time.

    1. That is a tricky situation, I would be upset to if they ran out or no longer served my favorite things but I think I would be more upset worrying all night if they messed with my food if I complained. Funny how much power a waiter can have over something so mundane, as you said slow your service, forgot what you ordered, do unsavory things to your food the list can go on. If the service or atmosphere goes downhill fast I’m all for paying the tab and moving to another place rather than risk retribution even if the restaurant or waiter were at fault. If I’m feeling especially froggy, I will endure the bad meal then ask for a manager. Least that way I can trick myself into thinking what I ate was tamper free.

  20. My husband knew I loved Mexican food so after we got married and I moved up to Oregon with him, he took me to his favorite restaurant, Si Casa Flores. Stepping into the restaurant with its bright orange walls, beautiful murrals, and various cultural arts everywhere, made me feel hopeful that I just might find "my spot" up there after all. The music playing in the background plus the friendly staff put me in a relaxing mood since I had just spend all day at school and work. My husband ordered two of his usual for us since I told him what I liked and he said he knew exactly what to get me- a platillo de Mazatlan. While waiting for our food, the waiters made sure to come and check on us never allowing our drinks to be completely empty before they brought our refills. We snacked on fresh chips and two kinds of salsa and almost finished it because we were so hungry since we both haven't had the chance to eat yet. I wasn't that impressed yet until our food came- it was so much food! The plate was huge, and it was full! The platillo de Mazatlan was a chicken and seafood mixture that came with sour cream, avocados, rice, beans, and our choice of tortillas. After tasting the food, I was sold. It was good, very authetic, and filling. I ended up not being able to finish it, but that wasn't a problem because my husband helped. After that, we were eating there almost every other week to the point where the waiters knew our orders. We still liked to try new places when we ate out, but once we found that it didn't hit the spot like Si Casa Flores did, we always returned. Now, whenever we visit my in-laws in Oregon, my husband and I make sure to swing by Si Casa Flores because til this day, I have not tasted any Mexican restaurant that I like as much as that place.

  21. My most enduring memory of a restaurant was at claim jumpers, now the food is good and the pricing is fair to the amount of portions you get, but that’s not what made the memory. The memory became enduring because of the company that was present. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps and my fellow marines, male or female can be viewed as brothers or sisters. Now no one can say they loved their brothers and sisters every second of the day, nor can anyone say they never hated them just a little bit at one time or another. Even so at claim jumpers surrounded by my brothers and sisters was a great time. It was right after a critical time that involved a lot of inspections and work and we were exhausted, working close to 20 hour days for the last 3 days to prepare for a final inspection. We were cranky and frankly sick of each other but somehow we all agreed to go out that night to dinner, and what a dinner it was! The food was great, the stories were fun, and couldn’t ask for better company. Half of us shipped off a few weeks later to Iraq but, to this day even after being out 6 years some of us still talk about it.

  22. My most enduring memory at a restaurant has to be Pirates Dinner Adventure. This was part of my 18th birthday celebration and was the most stupendous dinner I have ever been a part of. The place is at Buena Park, Ca and it's right next to Mid-evil Times. The whole point of this dinner is to give the customer an amazing experience. First they separated us by sections, each section has it's own pirate to cheer for, and they also allow you to go on stage and participate. The pirates have this whole theatrical show while we ate our three course meal, let me tell you it doesn't get any better than a great show and food all at the same time. I don't recall the food as much I just remember they had an awesome peach pie topped with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The atmosphere was superb and the service was on point. I do know the tickets are a little pricey meaning sixty dollars per person, but definitely worth it. I would recommend this place and I will surely go again not only for the show or the food, but for the overall ambiance that fills this dinner place.

  23. I was asked out from a guy from church and I was so excited. I really liked him and I was flabbergasted when he called me up and invited me to dinner. I went to Kohl's and bought a new outfit and new jewelry to match. Jarad arrived on time and I was ready. He wanted to take me to Olive Garden but it was too crowded so we went to Mimi's Cafe. The only booth available was a huge one, but I always prefer a booth over a table, where people always bump your shoulder when they walk by. Anyway, I am so nervous. I don't know if Jarad was too or if he was just strange. He talked excessively about "Weird Al Yangovich" and I don't remember what brought it up but he started acting like a dinosaur. I started looking around at the other tables hoping that people were not looking at us. After I began eating, I looked down at my shirt to make sure that I didn't spill any food on it and my two middle buttons were open, exposing my belly! I knew I should have gotten a bigger size, but I kept thinking that I will start a new diet soon. I buttoned them up quickly. I was in such a hurry to leave that I forgot my doggy bag at the restaurant. I remembered that I left in when we were in the car and almost to my house. I told Jarad and he said, "Do you want to go back and get it?" I said, "No, thanks." I told my sister all bout this date and to this day he will always be known as "Jaradsarous."

    1. Haha! That is brutal! Poor Jarad. I'm guessing no second date for him? I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was nervous. Although, there is never a good excuse to bring up Weird Al Yangovich.

  24. The most enduring moment at a restaurant for me was at Yanagi's. This was for my sushi experience and it just so happened to be with UFC fighter Chuck Liddell. Yanagi's is a sushi restaurant located in Pismo Beach, CA. I went with a group of friends and we set at a teppanyaki grill, they grill your food in front of you, and Chuck was sitting next to me. I have never been to Yanagi's before so i asked him what was his favorite thing on the menu and he told me the sunshine roll. I ended up ordering the sushi roll and it was the most amazing thing i have ever eaten. To this day i still go back to Yanagi's just to order the sunshine roll.

    1. Sounds like you had a lot of fun Mitchell! That is great! I really love sushi. Do you use wasabi and ginger too? I usually get the California roll. I am very interested in trying the sunshine roll now.

  25. My most enduring moment at a restaurant was at Wool Growers in downtown Bakersfield. Every December, the organization I work for holds a staff appreciation luncheon at Wool Growers. The previous luncheon was the most enduring restaurant moment for me, and I am assuming that several of my coworkers would agree that it was interesting for them as well. I have a coworker who is an extremely picky eater, and refuses to eat anything that is not "normal." Wool Growers was too much of an extreme for her, and she did not allow herself to eat anything served to us, aside from one or two side dishes. She spent the entire luncheon picking her food and refusing to try most of the items. She also had a very negative attitude and constantly complained. Everyone initially attempted to persuade her to try a few more menu items; however, we eventually stopped paying attention to her negativity and enjoyed the rest of our meal.

    1. I know this restaurant, of course, you should suggested her another variety of food that this restaurant has on its menu. Did she know she was going to a Basque Restaurant? Probably not. Next time, you and your coworkers go without her because you really need to enjoy the food.

    2. I once had someone do this at a dinner that I suggested. Prior to going, I asked this person if it was ok to go there, and they said it was, even though it was expensive. As soon as we arrived, I heard nothing but negative comments about the cost of practically everything on the menu! It bothered me so bad, that as soon as I saw the check, I grabbed it and told them I was paying for dinner!

  26. I remember many years ago my new friend who is my husband today, took me to a special restaurant that I wanted to go because it was close to my job in one of the best places in the city. They sold the most delicious cakes that you could ever imagine. The taste is amazing. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. This place was very expensive, one slice of cake was around $15 to $25 depending on which one you choose, and a cup of coffee was $10. I ordered a piece of cake called "Selva Negra" (Black Jungle) and a cup of coffee. Of course, my boyfriend chose a sandwich and a soda. This cake was so delicious that by the thought alone my mouth begins to water. I could imagine the ticket was outrageous and the tip, nevertheless it was a great day for me. I ate in one of the best places and I count the days to go to visit my family and visit the restaurant. Because I know how expensive this restaurant is, I will go with just one more person.

  27. I saw the biggest proposal wreck unfold in front of my eyes at a Marie Calendars Restaurant. The gentlemen who appeared to be in his late twenty's had been fidgeting all dinner long which caught my attention. I personal thought who might be ill because he was so pale. Later I came to find out he was going to propose to his girlfriend. I saw him pull out ring and set it on his lap for a second then he proceeded to ask her to marry him. I couldn’t hear all the words he was saying but I know he didn't finish his proposal. The girlfriend took off outside very upset. I could see her through the glass window crying on the phone. I have no idea what the end result was but it did not look good for the fidgeting gentlemen sitting across the way from me.
I can't say I've had a life changing experience at a restaurant but I did almost have a heart attack once (not literally). I was in New Orleans, by the Mississippi river, having lunch with my girlfriend, when I got the bill for $102. 55. I couldn’t believe it! Our meal shouldn't have been more than $45-$55 dollars. That explains why the menu's had no prices. Will never forget that experience or the price I paid, literally.

  28. One of the best restaurants that I have ever eaten at was Gallagher's in the New York, New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The sticker shock was amazing! $50.00 for a steak. That is all that is came with. My date that night also ordered a steak, and we shared two sides, each $10.00 each!! While it was expensive for us, it was worth it. We were young, excited, and felt so grown up and fancy to be eating at such a nice place. We felt like we were really splurging and treating ourselves. We both drank one glass of their house wine, and then drank water for the rest of the night! Obviously it was worth the money, because it was the first restaurant that I though of when reading this post!

  29. okay, so a resturant that sticks out in memory in my mind was a little whole in the wall pizza place called, Blondes Pizza in San Fransico. I went with my brother and a couple friends and since that first bite of that slice of pizza, i couldnt eat at another pizza place but there. I heard all over that this is the best place for pizza at a low price and it really was. For a huge giant slice of pizza it was 50 cents. That was for sure a sticker shocker and since then that has been my resturant place that has changed my life for pizza forever.
